Flooding Report in Suriname

Carribean Net News is reporting that most of the villages in the affected area of Suriname are accessible only by airplane or boat, though several airstrips are flooded. Torrential rains placed more than 60 villages along the Gran Rio River and the Pikin Rio river under water, as well as several villages along the Marowijne River and Lawa River along the French Guiana border.

On Friday, the waters reached 15 feet, and flooded homes, schools, medical centers and churches near the riverbanks.

Some of the victimes were forced to sleep in a field.
