Television and radio reports that, in certain places, the depth of the water is 3 meters. We've heard that the Suriname River and the Marowijne river have swollen due to the heavy rainfall, and that the villages on the banks of these rivers have been flooded. Television and radio reports that, in certain places, the depth of the water is 3 meters.

The Surinamese Army has sent in rescue teams. Operation "Falla Watra" (Operation 'Low Tide') is evacuating off of the people from the villages to the village of Djumu.

So far, one person has died. The president declared a state of emergency as of yesterday and has requested of all Surinamese people to help where ever they can.

The Red Cross has opened numerous bankaccounts for people to deposit financial aid. Holland is sending help.

In Holland they started a fund for the disaster area.The cities of Amsterdam and Rotterdam have already promised 250.000 euro's each.
