Radio Jamaica reports Suriname flooding

Radio Jamaica (Thur May 11, 2006) reports Suriname is still affected by flooding:

Regional Development Minister Michel Felisi says army, police and fire-fighters were being sent to help the estimated 30,000 villagers affected by the rising waters.

Villagers said that they have not yet received any relief assistance to date.

The authorities say they have already established two emergency centres in Broko-pondo and in Langatabbetje with a capacity to accommodate at least two thousand persons.
