Suriname Newspaper Reports, May 11th

According to the Surinamese newspaper De Ware Tijd, several national companies have donated about US$850,000.00 for the relief organizations. The President and Head of State Mr. Ronald Venetiaan added that everything helps and stressed the fact that an inventory has to be taken on what is necessary, since the need is of the afflicted people is fairly great and acute. The President also added that it seems that more money is needed than originally thought.

Furthermore, a member of the Dutch Labor Party in the European Parliament is calling for aid money to be send to Suriname

The newspaper further reported that an air bridge is ready to start flying in the most urgently needed goods tomorrow. According to a source, the group is going to go 'full out'.

The Dutch newspaper NRC Handelsblad is reporting that the air bridge will also be based in French Guyana. The resumption of classes in the areas where the schools are flooded are given priority, writes the newspaper. The fatalities amount is still unclear, so far the authorities have confirmed the death of a two-year-old girl.

Unconfirmed information... bit I believe it is Dutch MFA and UNDAC Netherlands who are setting up the air bridge. I will have more information on that soon, thanks ArubaGirl :)
