7.5 Quake 100 km east of Jakarta

A 7.5 magnitude earthquake struck the island of Java, Indonesia at 17:04:58 UTC, 100 km east of Jakarta. Additional information is available at the United States Geological Survey (USGS). Because the earthquake occurred about 290 km below the surface of the earth, it will have been felt strongly over a wide area, but is not likely to cause severe damage. The December 26, 2004 South East Asia Earthquake occurred about 29 km below the surface of the earth.

The USGS has received reports that the earthquake was felt in much of Java and in parts of Malaysia.
