Peru Quake: IFRC/PADRU Field Update From Pisco

The following update was received via Sat Phone email from the IFRC / PADRU team who have now reached Pisco after 6.5 - 7 hours (usually is a 2 hour drive) due to a severely damaged road infrastructure:

Our first impression is that there are a lot of destroyed houses but no confirmation on dead toll or injured yet but we are heading for the hospital to assess the needs and then we are going to leave for Ica. Indesi who are the local authorities here have formally asked PADRU to send the two planes filled with tents, plastic sheeting, blankets and jerry cans for 2,000 families while the aid planes will presumably leave Panana this afternoon and reach Pisco airport at around 1600 local time.
