Peru Quake: Tents, Blankets & Jerry Cans Needed

An aerial assessment of damage is expected in the early hours of this morning (Thursday 16th August) while the Health Ministry have cited that there have been no damages to hospital facilities yet but they have deployed medical teams to the Ica Department in support to the local hospitals. It has been reported that 377 houses are completely destroyed while churches and highways are severely damaged.

The UN Residential Coordinator has activated the Emergency Operations Centre on a 24 hrs basis and convened a meeting at 0800 local time with the UNDMT (UN Disaster Management Team). National Authorities have been informed about the availability of an immediate release of an emergency cash grant in support of the assessment needs which includes tents, jerry cans and blankets.

IFRC's RLU (Regional Logisitcs Unit) is on standby with an airline with 2 planes for shipment of goods to Peru for support of an initial 2,000 families. The PADRU (Pan American Disaster Response Unit) Delegate who attended the Civil Defense meeting in Lima, a few hours ago, has indicated to the WWH group, that an initial plane carrying humanitarian supplies will depart tomorrow morning to affected areas. PADRU is in Red Alert and are coordinating closely with the Regional Office in Lima and in Panama.
