Peru Quake: UK & US Embassies Issue Travel Alerts

The UK Embassy have stated that so far there are no reports of British casualties but the effects of the earthquake were also felt in Lima and the British Embassy is currently closed whilst structural checks are carried out on the building. Any British citizens who have been affected by the quake or need to report missing relatives, are requested to contact the British Embassy Duty Officer in Peru on +51 1 9751 7123.

The US Embassy have issued an alert via it's warden to Americans traveling or living in Peru regarding the 8.0 quake, requesting their citizens to monitor local media sources for new developments and exercise extreme caution while within the vicinity. Any affected American citizen, is encouraged to contact the US Embassy as soon as possible on 618-2724 or via fax to 51-1-618-2397. The Embassy is located in Monterrico, a suburb of Lima, at Avenida Encalada, Block Seventeen.
